What is Continuous Improvement?
There are many definitions of continuous improvement, but at its core, continuous improvement is a never-ending effort to improve products, services, or processes. It is a philosophy that assumes there is always room for improvement and that businesses must constantly strive to find new ways to be more efficient and effective.
Continuous improvement is often associated with the quality movement pioneered by W. Edwards Deming and others in the early 20th century. Deming's 14 Points for Quality Management provide a framework for continuous improvement and have been adopted by organizations around the world.
In recent years, the concept of continuous improvement has been embraced by lean manufacturing and Six Sigma programs as a way to achieve operational excellence. Many companies have also implemented employee-driven Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, which tap into the knowledge and creativity of workers at all levels of the organization.
While there are many different approaches to continuous improvement, they all share a common goal: to make things better.
